Make this Father’s Day extra special

Father’s Day is fast approaching, and while social distancing rules are starting to relax, many of us are still wary of family visits, especially if anyone in the family is considered high risk. There’s no doubt many Father’s Day traditions are going to be disrupted—but there are plenty of ways to celebrate dad. Here are some special ways to show the dads in your life just how loved they are, whether you’ve been cooped up together for months or remain separated by social distancing

Plan a video call or party

If you can’t be together on Father’s Day, a virtual party or chat is the next best thing. Set a time in advance if grandpa or dad is an active guy, and make sure what you’re doing works for elderly relatives (especially the dads!)—if grandpa has a hard time following conversations with lots of people, smaller chats with each of his kids’ families might be better than one big Zoom party. And a quick tip: If lots of people are joining, make sure everyone knows how to use the app you’ve chosen.

Give dad a special spot

Our homes are doing more than ever before, so Father’s Day is the perfect time to give dad a special spot to relax. Together, we furnish homes with love, and at Decor-Rest we have some great chairs that’ll make a perfect addition to a living room, master bedroom or basement hideaway. The 7312 Fabric or 7612 Leather Kick Back is ideal for dads who love to, well, kick back in a recliner after a long day of work. For dads who prefer a more streamlined look over reclining functionality, the 2782 chair has a modern appeal, while our 2050 Fabric or 3050 Leather Swivel Chair boasts a sleek, modern frame and well-cushioned seat and back. A new chair 2492 Fabric or 3492 Leather Chair is also a great gift for Father’s Day.

Send him a subscription box

Who doesn’t love a great subscription box delivered to their door? From one-time gift boxes to a quarterly or monthly subscription, there are plenty of options to suit dads’ interests. Carnivore Club is great for dads who love a premium cured meat, while the Hot Sauce of the Month Club is bound to be a hit with spicy food fans. For dads who appreciate style and fashion, consider the Frank and Oak Style Plan, the Extraordinary Man Box, or a Gentleman’s Box, which lets you choose between lifestyle and fashion accessories.

Order dad’s favourite dinner

Dinner ordered in (or picked up) is often a tradition on special occasions, and thankfully, this is one you can continue. Ask your partner or dad what he wants a few days ahead so you can order in advance, if possible, because it’s a safe bet there will be long waits for pick-up or delivery if you call after 5 p.m. on Father’s Day. Ordering a special brunch, lunch or dinner is also a treat for the dads you can’t be with—just be sure to plan a little in advance so your dad doesn’t end up with three ordered dinners from his kids and grandkids. And if meals on the big day are already taken, send a gift card for his favourite delivery—that way he can order what he wants anytime.

Give him the gift of learning

Has your partner or dad wanted to learn something new for a while? Now’s a great time to give dad the gift of virtual classes. Whether it’s a Masterclass subscription—which will give him access to lessons on everything from cooking to writing to music production and more—or a one-off program from an expert he’s been following, there are tons of options out there.

Get outdoors!

Active dads love any opportunity to get outside, so if you’re not socially distanced, make the day special with some family fun. It could be as simple as a long bike ride, maybe with a special stop for ice cream or a family picnic. Or you could make it a full day affair, with a hike outside the city followed by a lazy drive home along country roads.

To all the dads out there, we wish you a wonderful Father’s Day filled with laughter, happiness and lots of LOVE.
